The Situation

At Adnab Research, the clinical team set out to build a remote patient monitoring platform from the ground up to extend its population health services. From the start, the focus was on HIPAA compliant, secure infrastructure. Over time, the vision expanded to a flexible patient engagement platform capable of supporting diverse workflows, driving sustained patient adherence, and operating as an API first system for seamless integration with external cloud platforms.

Phase 1 — Build an MVP

Challenge: Define and ship a first working version of a patient engagement platform capable of Bluetooth vital sign collection, patient-reported outcomes, and questionnaire delivery — across both iOS and Android.
Approach: Defined the full product requirements. Recruited, hired, and led the engineering team. Selected a cross-platform mobile stack to maximize velocity and eliminate platform fragmentation. Led delivery end-to-end through the first production release.
Outcomes:
  • Working iOS/Android app with BLE device integration
  • Pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor, and weight scale connected

Phase 2 — Platform Expansion

Challenge: A single-channel mobile app left behind patients with limited smartphone access and left high-value clinical features — engagement, communication, intelligence — entirely on the table.
Approach: Expanded to SMS delivery for low-touch programs. Added HIPAA-compliant secure chat between patients and care teams. Introduced a gamification layer to drive sustained engagement. Built AI-generated reports to turn collected patient data into actionable clinical intelligence.

Phase 3 — Integration Strategy

Challenge: CareTrust was collecting valuable patient data but operating as an island. Care teams needed that data flowing into systems they already worked in. The platform needed to extend beyond vitals into the full patient journey.
Approach: Built a comprehensive API layer enabling bidirectional data exchange with external platforms, EHRs, and analytics systems. Extended the platform's use case surface to include appointment management and scheduling, transforming CareTrust from a data collection tool into a full patient engagement infrastructure layer.
